Travel to US Ski Resorts

Getting to most of the skiing resorts in USA in the west is pretty easy considering that most of them are in close proximity to an airport. You can search for routes and a good price for flights into and around USA using one of our flight search aggregators.

All the high profile USA ski resorts are serviced by shuttle services from the airports, whilst for the smaller ski resorts that are a little off the beaten track, you’ll need to rent a car and self-drive. For the majority of the US ski resorts, the road infrastructure to the mountains is very well developed.

Flights for the Utah Ski Resorts

Most of the Utah ski resorts are very close to the Salt Lake City International airport, and some are only a 45 minute drive away. Delta Airlines have over 300 daily flights in and out of SLC servicing many cities in the US, Mexico and Canada, and lots of other airlines also service SLC.

For Brian Head in Southern Utah, the closest airport is in Las Vegas.

Travel to the Colorado Ski Resorts

The enormous Denver International Airport (DEN) is the main gateway airport for many of the Colorado ski resorts. DIA is a major hub and is serviced by flights from a multitude of airports across the US as well as some international cities.

Colorado also has various regional airports that are close to some of the ski resorts. These include the Vail Eagle Municipal Airport, Aspen Airport, Telluride Airport, Montrose, Gunnison, Steamboat, and La Plata County Airport (Durango). The southwest Colorado ski resorts can also be accessed from the Albuquerque Airport in New Mexico.

These Colorado regional airports are much smaller than Denver airport and the flights are less frequent, more expensive, more weather plagued, but they have the distinct advantage of proximity to the relevant ski resorts.

California Ski Resorts

There are a few airports serving the California ski resorts.

The Reno Tahoe Airport (RNO) is the main airport serving the Lake Tahoe ski resorts. For example it’s only 42 miles from Squaw Valley. Reno Tahoe receives flights from various US cities including Salt Lake City, Denver, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Many of these Tahoe ski resorts are about 200 miles from San Francisco International Airport (SFO), a major hub with flights from lots of US and international airports (including Australia, New Zealand and UK).

The massive LAX (Los Angeles International airport) can also be used as a gateway for the California ski resorts. For Mammoth ski resort, the drive from LAX takes about 5 hours.

Ski Wyoming

Wyoming ski resorts such as Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole are best accessed via the Jackson airport, although it can be somewhat weather plagued. Jackson airport receives flights from Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Denver and Chicago O’Hare. Another gateway airport is Salt Lake City, about 5 hours drive from Jackson.

Montana Ski Resorts

Big Sky and Bridger Bowl are accessed via the Bozeman airport (Yellowstone International Airport), which has direct service from several major airports including Los Angeles and Denver. Whitefish Mountain Resort is near the Kalispell (Glacier Park) Airport.

Alaska Skiing

You can access Alaska by flying into the Anchorage International Airport and heading to Alyeska ski resort and Alaska heli skiing near Girdwood. Alaska has mega mountains and lots of bodies of water, so to access other Alaska heli skiing, further flights are required from Anchorage to Cordova and Valdez.
